Join a 3-day hands-on workshop in Pietrasanta — the city of artists — and learn the traditional techniques of fresco painting, from drawing and plaster preparation to natural pigments and final execution on terracotta.

Guided by artist Franco Pagliarulo, participants will explore the beauty of this ancient craft, visit local frescoes by Botero and Romano Cosci, and discover Casoli, the village of sgraffiti.
A unique artistic experience combining creation, culture, and the spirit of Renaissance Tuscany.

🎨 Fresco Workshop – The Art of Stone Painting in Pietrasanta

3 days of art, technique, and beauty in the heart of Tuscany

Day 1 – Introduction & InspirationIntroduction to the history and secrets of fresco paintingEach participant defines their own project and prepares a cartoon for spolvero (pouncing)Guided walk to discover frescoes by Fernando Botero and Romano Cosci in PietrasantaArtistic tour through the city’s monuments and studios

Day 2 – From Drawing to MatterPreparation of the arriccio (first plaster layer)Transfer of the drawing and study of pigmentsOption to explore the sgraffito technique, similar to frescoArtistic visit to Casoli, the “village of sgraffiti”

Day 3 – The Painting Comes to LifePreparation of the intonaco and final veil on a terracotta tile (embrice)Transfer of the cartoon and painting “a fresco” with natural pigmentsEach participant completes their personal fresco to take home
